The finisher unit is typically used for pigs from 20-30 kg until slaughter. The wean-to-finish unit is used from weaning until slaughter for from 7-120 kg. The main difference is that the wean-to-finish pens include a cover above the pigs’ lying area and a smaller distance between the vertical bars in the contact grid iron to avoid trapping of pigs, as well as the design of the floor. Furthermore, the design of the feeding system is adapted to the higher weight range. Thus, the trough height is lower and the feeding system provides more diets during the growing period than for a conventional finisher unit.
The equipment for these pens is available in different types of materials and heights and are designed according to the current recommendations and published test results. Penning might be provided as 35 mm plastic panel, 10 mm compact fiber or as a 50 mm panel solution. All three types of materials for penning solutions are made in different heights and can be designed as required for liquid or dry feeding including contact grids of different measures and materials.
Finisher pens with plastic boards
Vissing Agro finisher penning made of 35 mm plastic boards is an economically attractive solution, without compromising on quality and materials. The pen comprises a combination of closed and ventilated separation walls which gives the pigs the most optimal conditions for growth. The pen walls have a smooth and dense surface and are extremely easy to clean. The pens are built in modules and can be provided in a height of 87 cm or 100 cm. Penning might include a closed plastic boards 75/100 cm high or closed in the lower 75 cm with 1 or 2 overlying horizontal bars. The pens might include gates covering the width of the pen or small custom made gates.
In connection with liquid feeding the feed pipes might be integrated into the pen wall which makes cleaning extremely easy. . The feed tube is connected directly on top of the pen wall. The pen wall is always mounted on the floor with stainless steel fittings or solid posts anchored to the floor.
Finisher pens – fiber solution
This penning system is made of compact fiber material, which is an incredibly strong and durable material the fact that it is only 10 mm thick. The penning takes up a minimum of space in the pig units allowing more animals in the whole area as compared to thicker penning.
The penning system for the finisher unit comprises a combination of closed and ventilated separation walls which provide the pigs the most optimal conditions for good growth. The panels have a smooth and dense surface and are extremely easy to clean. Pens are built in modules either as closed 62/82 cm high walls or as closed 62 cm high walls finished with one overlying horizontal bar 82 cm above the floor. The pens are with small gates which might be custom made. Furthermore, the gates have a raise-lowering function with 15 mm lift to minimize the distance to the floor preventing manure in the walkway. The contact grid can be made of stainless steel or galvanized steel.

Finisher pens with plastic panels
The pens are built in modules of plastic panel with 50 mm thickness and the color light gray. There are several combination options either fully enclosed panels 100 cm high or 50 cm closed panel with 3 horizontal bars and a total height of 87 cm, 50 cm panel with 4 bars and a total height of 100 cm. Panel pens are made with small gates. In the case of liquid feeding the feed pipes might be integrated into the panel wall providing a cleaning-friendly solution without feeding pipes bolted to the penning. The supply pipe from the liquid feeding system is connected directly on top of the pen wall. The panel wall is attached to the pen floor with strong posts or stainless-steel fittings.
